Arrives New Motorola Droid Turbo 2 at Verizon

What’s Motorola’s ultimate strategy for the US smartphone market? With this year’s new Moto X (the Pure Edition for US shoppers), the company is stepping even further away from the traditional smartphone sales model, dropping the idea of in-store carrier sales entirely and going out on its own as it sells the phone direct, off-contract, and leaving it up to the user to decide which carrier to go with. But could there be more to it than that? While the Moto X proper may go the direct-sales route, Motorola’s special relationship with Verizon seems far from over, and we’ve been tracking evidence pointing to some upcoming Verizon-exclusive Motorola hardware. Last week, and that’s just where our thoughts return tonight, as a new leak adds additional support for the phone.

OK, so the Droid Turbo 2 (whether or not it keeps the Droid name) might just exist – but what hardware is it? That much has been a lot less clear, and we’re unsure if we’re looking at some from-the-ground-up handset that’s just for Verizon, or if the Turbo 2 could be heavily inspired by (if not an outright rebranding of) an existing Motorola phone – maybe something like the Moto X Play? After all, the original Droid Turbo had that giant 3900mAh battery, and perhaps could prove to be a worthy successor.
